Who this is for

Most of our people had never done this before.

Guided By Adventure grew out of a Prince George hiking club, and it turned into something the founder didn't quite expect: a community of people — many of them women between 35 and 75 — who had always wanted to hike, snowshoe or camp in the backcountry and never had the chance.

“Up north, it's grown to this beautiful community of women that are now all friends outside of the guided trips, and they're all backcountry camping and hiking and snowshoeing.”
— Meg Keir, owner & guide, speaking to Castanet, February 2025

Club trips are open to everyone, whatever your gender or fitness. If you're not sure you have the right gear or the right legs for it — that's exactly the question we're here to answer.

Winter — the season we're known for

Snowshoeing is the easiest hard thing you'll ever do.

If you can walk, you can snowshoe. There's no lesson to pass, no lift ticket, no equipment to buy — you strap in and the winter forest opens up. We've been running guided snowshoe trips out of Prince George since 2020, from two-hour moonlight walks on city trails through to cabin overnights in the Cariboo.

Snowshoe trips are released in the autumn and the small-group ones fill quickly — the Wells Snowshoe Festival and the cabin overnights have both sold out in past years. Call or email now and we'll tell you the moment dates go live, or build a private snowshoe day for your group on a date that suits you.

Who guides you

Meg Keir — owner, lead guide, and the reason this exists.

Meg's route into guiding started more than fifteen years ago with the West Coast Trail. She spent the next decade in the mountains collecting the certifications to do it properly, then started a Prince George run-and-hike club in 2020 that turned into a full guiding business. Today she and Kate run Guided By Adventure together as a women-led company, with local trip leaders helping out on community walks.

  • ACMG Apprentice Hiking Guide with Winter Accreditation
  • Wilderness First Aid Responder
  • Certified Stand Up Paddling instructor
  • Bear-aware certified
  • AdventureSmart workshop facilitator

“There's a lot of people that ask, ‘Well, why would you need a guide?' And well, if you're asking that, then you're probably not the person that this is for.”
